I know that it’s still quite early in the semester, and that I’ve written about this before, but it needs to be said again. There are some very inconsiderate smokers on this campus.
I’m not complaining about smoking while walking on the sidewalks even though that affects my asthma as well. I’m talking about the extremely rude smokers who insist on smoking on handicapped ramps, on stairs, and/or directly in front of the doors at Rogers-Stout, Sam Wilson, and Warf-Pickel Halls.
The doors have signs that there is not supposed to be smoking in the doorways, yet students and faculty insist on doing it anyway. Those of us with breathing problems have to walk through noxious clouds of choking smoke to get into buildings. I have to use a dust mask and even then, sometimes get whiffs of the smoke and have to use my nebulizer or inhaler to breathe. Please be considerate and move away from the doors, steps and ramps.
Another issue for some asthmatics is the very potent perfumes and colognes some of you wear. The dust mask doesn’t always keep that out either and some of that stuff is worse than the smoke. Please think before you drown yourselves in it.
Better yet, don’t wear it at all. If you take a shower and you are clean, you don’t need it.
Thanks for the consideration for all of us with breathing problems.
