Coming home is always nice, especially after going 2-4 on the road. The volleyball team took out their anger on Furman, winning in three straight sets 32-30, 31-29 and 30-20. ETSU is now 6-5.
The first game went back and forth with both teams battling it out after a one-hour delay due to the official not being present. Kaena Apana led the team with 25 digs. “This was our confidence builder,” she said. “We had a good learning experience on the road and came back with more confidence.”
Two freshmen led the team in kills. Desiree Dyck had 12 and Laura Waddell had 11.
In the second game the Bucs started to run away with the lead then Furman climbed back in. The third game was back and forth between the two teams and then the Bucs took it to a tired Furman.
“This was a great game for us. This extended our win streak and gave us confidence for the tough road games,” said head coach Lindsey Devine. “We came home and practiced harder and changed the line-up because Marissa (Mortenson) is so versatile with the ball control.”
The road games taught the team a lot. “That was a definite learning experience for us and the two games coming up will prepare us for conference play,” said Apana.
“They showed us what our mistakes were and we learned from them. That’s all that happened. We made mistakes and now we learn from them,” said Callie Kiselich. “We needed this sweep tonight to take on the road. It felt great to be home in front of a great crowd.”
The Bucs go on the road to face Indiana and UNC Central.
The next home game is Sept. 19 at 7 p.m., against UNC-Asheville.
