Even though national and international economies have remained turbulent, giving to ETSU and the ETSU Foundation has surpassed prior estimates. In providing an update to those prior estimates, Dr. Richard A. Manahan, vice president for University Advancement and president/CEO of the ETSU Foundation, noted that private giving for 2009-10 exceeded $21.3 million, including private gifts, planned estate gifts, and private contracts generated by faculty and staff.

The 2009-10 fiscal year, which concluded June 30, was the university’s largest fundraising year in the past eight years.

In remarks provided by Manahan at the ETSU Foundation annual meeting on May 13, it was estimated that giving would be $17.5 million for that year.

“The vision and leadership of President Paul E. Stanton Jr., and the ETSU Foundation membership consisting of 423 alumni, friends, and university employees working together as a team have made our success possible in fundraising,” Manahan said. “During these challenging times, private support is absolutely essential to build the ‘Margin of Excellence’ for our ETSU students and faculty.”

“Our Foundation has stayed the course and turned the corner during these volatile and uncertain times,” said Leslie Parks Pope, chair of the ETSU Foundation.

During the May Foundation meeting, Stanton expressed his appreciation to each donor for his or her continued generosity and dedication.
