On Sept. 2, the ETSU women’s soccer team played the first ever night game at Summers-Taylor Stadium where the Lady Bucs took on the King College Tornadoes.The match was dominated by ETSU with King being unable to get a single shot against the Lady Bucs’ 29 shots, with two goals for the win.
“We made history tonight,” said head coach Heather Henson. “We not only played the first night game, we came away with a win.”
ETSU threatened from the beginning after Jessica Huntington broke through the Tornado defense and put a shot on goal that was blocked by King’s goalie Abbey Kitts.
A few minutes later ETSU was knocking on King’s door when Courtney Deem chipped the ball, but was barely stopped by the Tornado goalie.
ETSU finally was able to put the ball in the net at the 30th minute after Kayla White’s shot hit the post and bounced in with an assist by Ramey Kerns, 1-0 ETSU.
“It’s really exciting,” said White, “We are No. 1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.”
The Lady Bucs ended the half with a 1-0 lead after being shut down the rest of the half. Entering the second half, the Lady Bucs looked to hold on to their lead but after a quick break away by Terri Miller, ETSU took a 2-0 lead in the first minute of the second half.
“I got a good ball from Kelly Brinkman,” said Terri Miller. “I was able to sneak the ball under the goalie.”
ETSU coasted for the rest of the game, keeping the ball from King College and even getting some quick breaks that were saved by the Tornado goalie.
The Lady Bucs held on to their lead for the rest of the game for a 2-0 win against King College.
ETSU women improved to three wins and one tie. King College fell to zero wins and one loss.
