The East Tennessee State University volleyball team secured back-to-back victories against Wofford on Oct. 16-17, winning the first match 3-2 and the second 3-1.

The victories improved the Buccaneers’ overall record to 8-12 and their Southern Conference record to 6-3. ETSU, which won the conference championship in 2025 and was picked to finish first in the preseason poll, is tied for third in the conference standings with UNC Greensboro and Samford.

The wins were particularly significant for the Bucs, as Wofford entered the series undefeated in conference play and held the top spot in the SoCon standings.

In the opening match, Makayla Bays led ETSU with 18 kills, three service aces and two blocks. Karis Chatfield followed with 12 kills, one ace and two blocks.

As a team, the Buccaneers recorded 56 kills, a .155 hitting percentage and 73 points.

Bays delivered a key kill late in the match, helping ETSU move closer to securing the victory. A solo block ultimately sealed the win for the Buccaneers.

ETSU carried that momentum into the second match, with Elizabeth Aylward leading the team with 13 kills and a season-high .462 hitting percentage.

Alex Kreutzmann contributed a team-high 19 assists, while Melanie Morris recorded 20 digs and two service aces.

Three Buccaneers recorded double-doubles during the match. Bailey Gohike finished with 17 assists and 10 digs, Bays added 12 kills and 10 digs, and Chatfield contributed 11 kills and 12 digs.

The Buccaneers will return to action Oct. 23-24 when they host Furman at Brooks Gymnasium.
