The ETSU women’s volleyball team recently showed off their talent at the Mountaineer Classic in Boone, N.C. The team faced tough competition and displayed tremendous teamwork. Hosted by Appalachian State University, the tournament featured a series of intense matches, with the Buccaneers looking to build momentum early in their season and show what they are truly capable of. As they continue to grow as a team, ETSU’s athletes remain focused on refining their skills and preparing for the challenges ahead in conference play. The Bucs are looking forward to the rest of the season and are ready to showcase their talents in every match!

While participating in the Mountaineer Classic, ETSU went up against App State in their first match, and Gardner-Webb in their second match. 

In their first match versus App State, ETSU fell just short, losing the fight 2-3. ETSU started out strong in the first set of the match, turning an early tie into a dominating 15-8 lead. They were off to a terrific start, securing the first set with a 25-16 victory. App State made a comeback in the second set, ultimately winning 25-20. Things started looking grim for ETSU in the third set, allowing App State to keep a lead but the women persevered and got a 27-25 win in the set. In the fourth set App State took the reins and took complete control. The Mountaineers gained a huge lead early on, dominating the set 25-15. The final set against App State was a thriller all the way down to the wire. Each team traded blows back and forth, until App State just got out in front and took a 15-13 win giving App State a 3-2 victory over ETSU.

The women were fired up after the loss to App State and bounced back in the second match versus Gardner-Webb shutting them out 3-0. In the first set, the Bucs got a lead early on and kept their foot on the gas finishing out 25-19. Going into the second set ETSU had all of the momentum and overpowered Gardner-Webb winning a swift victory of 25-15. In the third and final set things got really exciting. The Runnin’ Bulldogs put up a fight, keeping the Bucs on their toes. The final set came down to the very last moments, but ETSU took care of business and won the set 27-25. 

Amanda Lowe (Blacksburg, Va.) and Reese Rhodes (Waco, TX) were stand out players for ETSU in the Mountaineer Classic. Lowes led the team in kills with 27, and Rhodes led the team in assists with 59.
