The Women’s Studies program at ETSU will offer several courses this summer, allowing students to earn hours toward their minors.
Women’s Studies is an interdisciplinary field that examines women’s contributions to and relationships with history, society, culture, politics and economics.
There are three main goals to the program, including increased awareness of gender issues, aiding individual development and decision-making, and encouraging active participation in society.
“I am really excited about the films I plan on showing in the pre-summer session,” said Dr. Martha Copp of the sociology department. “Some are older and some are foreign, but all of them are related to the topics covered in the class.”
The courses are Introduction to Women’s Studies; Race, Class and Gender in Films; Film Genres “The Western”; Womanhood in America; Women and Their Art; and Women in “Film Noir”.
In addition to Copp, Dr. Vida Joyce Hull, Mary Hurd, Dr. Amber Kinser, Dr. Tess Lloyd and Dr. Elwood Watson will be teaching classes.
Students who are interested in enrolling in these courses are recommended to register before April 17 to ensure a seat. For more information, contact Kinser, director of Women’s Studies, at 439-7571 or e-mail her at kinsera@etsu.edu.
