East Tennessee State University is now participating in the edscholar Program and will offer six major scholarships to incoming freshmen for the fall 2003 semester.
The edscholar Scholarships are $4,250 per year. The scholarships, which are awarded on the basis of academic merit, leadership, community service and demonstrated financial need, are renewable for a total of four years based on compliance with scholarship retention requirements. Designated edscholars must be Tennessee residents.
ETSU President Paul Stanton said, “We are delighted to participate in this scholarship program with edsouth. Their generosity will allow ETSU to identify and recruit outstanding students and continue our efforts to promote leadership and service on campus. We anticipate that all of the ETSU edscholars will continue to be outstanding students and provide leadership and community service during their years at ETSU.”
Student loan provider edsouth, a nonprofit corporation headquartered in Knoxville, and servicing partner edamerica are sponsoring the edscholar Program to expand access to higher education throughout Tennessee. Tommy Schumpert, retired two-term county executive of Knox County and former school administrator, is director of the edscholar Program. Scholarships from edscholar will be offered at 58 different schools across Tennes-see for a total of $3 million.
