Virginia’s government has recently voted to ban partial- birth abortions within its borders. I wonder who will be next to follow suit.
I am pro-choice. I believe that a woman has ultimate control over her body and I agree that she should be allowed to decide how to control her own health. However, I am opposed to the idea of partial-birth abortions.
These surgeries are brutal, painful and just down-right gross.
Partial-birth abortions are performed usually during the last trimester of pregnancy.
The woman gives birth and then the fetus is murdered before it has completely exited the birth canal.
Physically, it is dangerous to have an abortion, even in the first weeks of a pregnancy. The zygote is “sucked out” of the uterus so the body can resume the menstrual cycle.
This tricks the female body.
One danger is the chance that the doctor might also remove some of the uterus, leaving behind scar tissue that can affect a woman’s chance of becoming and staying pregnant later.
Another danger is that the doctor might not clean out the uterus completely leaving behind remnants of the egg.
Partial-birth abortions begin by inducing labor, which is unarguably the most painful moment in a woman’s life.
Physically, labor produces dangers of another sort. Mentally, women are more caring and nurturing by nature.
Imagine witnessing a baby killed right before your eyes while you are in labor. That image must burn in the minds of these women forever. Knowing that it was your own choice must be equally damaging.
Emotionally, a woman feels guilt for her actions and chances are that she would not be able to bear the guilt leading to emotional breakdowns and depression.
I am pro-choice, but this inhumane treatment of babies under such disgusting procedures should not be allowed to go on anywhere in our nation.
Some will argue that they did not know they were pregnant until after the cutoff date for a normal abortion procedure. That is a bunch of lies.
A woman knows she is pregnant long before six months in the pregnancy.
Others have argued that these partial-birth abortions are necessary when it involves saving the life of the mother.
However, technology is so advanced that doctors should be able to detect a problem if medical attention is sought in time.
If she chooses not to have the child and have an abortion, at least she hasn’t let the situation be anymore painful or harmful to herself.
