The 45th annual Grammy Awards were held last Sunday in New York City as the world of music gathered together to honor outstanding achievements.
The Grammy’s are sponsored by the Recording Academy and the winners are chosen by votes from over 150 members of the academy.
Hosted by John Leguizamo, the Grammy’s brought together the cr_me de la cr_me in the music business.
The show opened with a classic Simon and Garfunkel number and was only the beginning of the many who would perform that night. No Doubt, Coldplay, Nsync, Avril Lavigne and Bruce Springsteen all graced the Grammy stage.
“The Boss” Bruce Springsteen received a standing ovation for his performance of his hit “The Rising.”
The biggest winner of the night was Norah Jones who walked away with five awards.
Other winners include the Dixie Chicks winning Best Country Album for “Home.” Robin Williams won Best Spoken Comedy Album. Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers won for Best Soundtrack.
Best Hard Rock Performance went to the Foo Fighters for “All My Life.” John Mayer performed and won Best Male Newcomer.
The Bee Gees were presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards. It was a teary-eyed acceptance speech as the two remaining Gibb brothers presented the award to their nephew, Adam, in honor of his father, the late Maurice Gibb.
Lifetime Achievement Awards also went to Alan Lomax, Johnny Mathis, Etta James and others.
Eminem, who was expected to win many Grammy’s this year walked away with only one. He won Best Rap Album for “The Eminem Show” and performed “Loose Yourself” in front of the audience.
Even as it was a night of joy and music, many artists spoke out against the upcoming possibility of war with Iraq.
Sheryl Crow sported a guitar strap with the words “No War” printed on it. Fred Durst made anti-war remarks as he presented an award.
All in all the winners walked away happy and the losers will have another shot at submitting an album for next year.
It was a night of many genres of music from Latin to jazz to R&B and pop. The stars were out in full glow.
