Dear Editor,
I was perturbed by Cheruvu’s editorial in the Feb. 27 issue. It was a thoughtless vitriolic blast of general pissiness.
In particular, I wonder what the writer means by asserting that “I pledge non-allegiance” and “I want no association with a country.”
How can she think she can have “no association” when she lives here and is in fact attending a state-supported university?
There’s a moral dilemma the writer seems not to have noticed.
Here’s the question, if she hates it that much, why is she still here and profiting by state support?
To use her own word, she needs to “stop placing blame,” and “stop playing the victim.”
I love this country. I am proud to be an American. I know there are things we need to improve, and I am happy to try to make my country better.
I am hopeful about change and happy to try. My life is nothing like her bitter portrayal of American society.
Finally, the writer challenges us to “Call me a flag-burner, a hippie or a fervent pursuer of the First Amendment,” and then asserts, “but I stand true to my convictions.”
Well good for her, but I don’t feel inclined to call her any of those names she’d like to claim for himself.
I will know better than to waste my time reading anything else with her name on it.
That, Cheruvu, is my right to exercise the first amendment.
