Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to Silaja Cheruvu’s article. I would first like to applaud Cheruvu on her bravery. It takes guts to write an article like this.
Free speech is a right that every American has, and it is because of this right that Cheruvu can say what she said. This country that Cheruvu does not want to be associated with is one of very few countries that would let such words be written about the government.
I would invite Cheruvu to go to a country that is not motivated by capitalism; see if any of those countries will give the rights to its citizens that Cheruvu has enjoyed here. I invite you to find a country that is not in a “never-ending quest for supremacy.” You will not.
Why would you want to be associated with this country? I do not have to answer to anyone for my religious beliefs. I can go to college and be a doctor even if my father never set foot on a college campus. I can marry whomever I choose. My daughters will not be tortured or killed because of their sex. I am proud of this country because we can disagree and still stand together without fear of persecution.
If you truly believe that America is that bad, then you do not have to stay. But if you do stay, try to change what is wrong. Do not just complain about it.
