Fall intramurals are already underway at ETSU, but with new leadership.
Chris Meister, the former head of club sports at Virginia Tech, is the new intramurals coordinator at ETSU.
Meister said that the main difference between the two schools is size.
“Virginia Tech had 25,000 people, so intramurals were first-come, first-served,” she said.
“Here it is easier to add players on to the rosters late because there are not as many people.”
As an undergraduate at Chino State in California, Meister had a position similar to the one she has now at ETSU.
“Chino State had about 15,000 people to 12,000 here, so I know what to expect,” she said.
Meister is working hard to train officials for flag football, which starts Thursday.
The officials will have mock games that will help them get ready for the season.
“Officiating is all about confidence,” Meister said.
“Even if you make the right call and you look unsure about it, the players will know.”
Since arriving at ETSU, she has been adjusting to her new position.
“I have only been here two weeks, so I’m still getting to know the staff. After time, I will find out who works well together and what groups of officials work well together.”
Meister will be watching her officials closely this fall to see who will be good enough to referee the playoffs.
“I think officiating the playoffs is a big deal, and I want the best crew out there on the field.
“That is not just being a good official, but that is being on time for work and being properly dressed, too.
