The cancellation of the football program at East Tennessee State University will have a deeper impact than some members of the administration would like to admit. In addition to the football team, coaching staff and fans, the band and the cheerleading squads will both suffer from the loss of football.
“A lot of people will not want to come here to school without a football team,” said junior cheerleader Lacey Maples.
The general consensus among most of the cheering staff was that other things could have been worked out without having to sacrifice the football program.
“Other programs don’t get cut. Basketball doesn’t get cut,” said Maples.
“I think the decision will hurt the school more than it will help.”
As life continues on campus after the decimation of football at ETSU, the cheerleaders will have competitions and other sports to look towards, but the feeling of resentment still lingers.
