Dear Editor:
As a young adult and a first-time voter in 2004, there are many political issues and procedures in place that I find disturbing.
I surely plan on allowing my vote to be cast for the best plan, not the best man.
The current situation in Iraq is a source of irritation for me.
Our presidential leader decided to declare war and send our American troops to foreign soil to cause complete and total destruction to Iraqi people.
As a result, the taxpayers of the United States can expect to spend billions of dollars rebuilding what now has been destroyed by our own troops.
As a freshman in college, I am aware of the need for financial aid, better high school curriculums and course studies. There is a vital need for more money to be placed toward our schools and to properly compensate our teachers.
Tennessee’s teachers alone are extremely underpaid, according to national statistics.
We, as Americans, need to concentrate on ensuring our futures by investing in our own land, its people, poverty rates, work force and schools. Then, we may be better prepared to help others.
As the Rev. Jesse Jackson once said, “Get your own house in order before you invest the time, effort and money in putting someone else’s in mint condition.”
