The ETSU Indoor Drumline placed fourth at the PASIC 2003 competition at Louisville, Ky., at the Kentucky International Convention Center on Nov. 19-21 with a score of 86.5. This was their third consecutive year at the competition.
Among their competition were colleges such as Troy State University, University of Memphis, Eastern Kentucky University and Miami University.
Mickey Burmer, ETSU sophomore, won first place in the snare soloist competition with a score of 94.65. Burmer competed against 11 other soloists. Burmer said, “I was happy to represent ETSU at the competition. It was a great experience.”
Bass drum player, Ben Painter, said, “We should place in the Top 5 at least,” at one of the practices before the competition. Painter proved to be right.
The drumline had been practicing for some time for their performances. The music selections of Arthur Lypner proved to please the crowd as well as the judges.
Justin Stanton, front ensemble, said before the competition, “This is one of the highest calibur ensembles on campus.”
