The ETSU women’s soccer team wrapped up their weekend trip to Atlanta with a 4-3 double overtime victory over Jacksonville State.
Not long after freshman Keri Dusch entered the game she put the winning goal in the back of net for her first ever ETSU score.
Head Coach Heather Henson was proud of the freshman’s accomplishment.
“This was such a great way for Keri to get her first goal,” said Henson.
The first game of the invitational did not go as well for the Lady Bucs as they were defeated 3-0 by host Georgia State. ETSU came out strong in the contest, but the Lady Panther’s defense was very solid.
“They [Georgia State] are an excellent defensive team, and very well coached,” Henson said.
The shots on goal were tied at eight, but Georgia State was able to make the most of their opportunities.
“Our shot count was even, the only difference was Georgia State took advantage of their shots,”Henson said.
The team did not have much time to adjust for their Sunday game against Jacksonville State, but they were able to rebound and get the win.
Kerri Burke, Erin Ashton and Emily Fulcher scored the other goals for the Lady Bucs, and the team showed great improvement from Friday’s loss to GSU.
“We played much tighter defensively against Jacksonville State, it just came down to gut, will, and desire it the end,” Henson said.
ETSU took Monday off after the double-overtime win and now they will travel to the state of Virginia to face rival Radford on Thursday, Sept. 16.
“Radford always plays us tough and last year we beat them in overtime,” Henson said. “We are amped for this game.”
The Lady Bucs are now 3-2 and the Radford game will be their last test before they open up Southern Conference play at the Citadel on Sept. 26. ETSU’s next home game is not until Oct. 3 when the team will host Western Carolina at 2 p.m.
