This weekend the Lady Bucs volleyball played host to The Citadel and the College of Charleston. ETSU faced The Citadel on Saturday, Oct. 16 and College of Charleston on the 17.
The first match against The Citadel went in the Bucs favor, 3-0 (30-20, 30-18, 31-29). This win is the third conference win for the Bucs.
In game one the Bucs managed a 10-point lead, 13-3 and didn’t let the Bulldogs get too close. Game two showed much of the same.
Senior Karen Freeburg served three straight points to put the Bucs in the lead at 21-17. Callie Kiselich served the last seven points to win the second game.
The Bucs went into intermission with two games under their belts and one more on their minds. In the first two games the Lady Bucs were able to tally 34 kills and five blocks, while the Bulldogs recorded 23 kills and two blocks. The third game was a hard fought game, going down to a two-point win.
The Bulldogs lead at 17-14, their biggest lead of the day, but were unable to keep hold of it. The Lady Bucs won 31-29. Sara Scandiffio had a match high, 13 kills, followed closely by Jennifer Sartor with 12. Brittany Kessel led the team with 45 assists. Samantha Parisi led the Bulldogs with 12 kills, followed by teammate Katie Livingston with 31 assists.
The second match of the weekend was against the College of Charleston. This game did not go in Bucs favor. The Lady Bucs lost to the Cougars 0-3 (19-30, 28-30, 22-30). With the win the Cougars continue a nine-game winning streak.
Game one started off in the Cougars favor with a growing lead of 12-4 behind the service of Rebecca Wieters. ETSU managed a .020 hitting percentage compared to the .186 the Cougars posted.
The second game was a battle on both sides. Tied 17-all, the Cougars were able to break the tie and make it a four-point game.
Game three was a tight game. Wieters proved to be a strong force for the Cougars serving seven straight points.
Sartor had a match high, 14 kills, followed by Freeburg with 11 kills, 11 digs, and Kessel with 33 assists.
ETSU was out blocked by the College of Charleston, 8-3. Both sides were plagued with service errors, nine for ETSU and 10 for the Cougars.
The Lady Bucs will be back in action on Oct. 23 against Furman. This game is the start of a long road trip.
