Dear Editor,
Where is the consistency in the allocation of funding by the SGA 606 Committee?
I’ve gone through a 606 hearing myself as a student, and I understand the stress and disappointment groups go through. However, this time, several student organizations have the right to be upset by the inconsistency of funding for events.
606 needs to rework the guidelines for a more consistent approach to allocating funds. The Cycling Club, Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance and the Student Nurses Association all received funding to attend off-campus events.
The Public Relations Student Society of America and the Campus Crusade for Christ were denied money to attend off-campus events.
Personally I don’t see the difference between the groups that received funding and those that did not – and I could almost bet the two groups that didn’t get money don’t see the difference either.
One senator remarked that the SNA conference and the PRSSA conference seemed the same, but one only one received money.
I agree with the committee chair that the highest priority should be given to events that are available for the students on campus.
But, the Cycling Club, FMLA and SNA are not holding their events on campus.
