Crazy dunks, high-flipping gymnasts and screaming fans were all present at the second annual Streetball N-Vasion Tour Saturday.
The tour was such a success last year that the event was brought back to East Tennessee State University in Brooks Gym.
This year the event featured some of the top names in streetball, such as Hot Sauce, White Chocolate, Helicopter, The Escalade, Baby Shaq, Bend-Da-Rim, Big Money Mone, The Future, The Birdman, Flight, The Wizard and Big Swole. These players have been featured in the And 1 Mix Tour, Nike Tour Battle Grounds, Legends of the Blacktop Tour, and Magic Johnson Streetball Showcase.
This team of all stars faced a tough hometown team featuring Damon Johnson, Jovann Johnson, Ashley Odom, Sheldon Davis, Stacy Irvin and Chris Wiley.
Not only is Wiley on the hometown team, but he will also be a contender for a spot on the And 1 team in the spring.
One event that was new to the tour was a tryout for two spots on the home team and one for the tour team.
In order to be eligible for the spots, participants had to be present at the 2nd annual Streetball N-Vasion Tour open run at Carver Recreation Center in Johnson City on Saturday morning.
Hot Sauce and White Chocolate were on hand to pick the winners of the open run.
After the teams were picked the game started at 7 p.m. with the Johnson City team staying close by the Streetball Team. There were many different leads throughout the night.
At halftime the Johnson City home team was only behind one point, 52-53.
The Beale Street Flippers were back at halftime to dazzle the crowds.
The men were present at last year’s show and amazed crowds at their acrobatic, gravity defying skills.
The Beale Street Flippers didn’t disappoint this year, amazing crowds with their tumbling abilities.
After halftime the teams came out to compete.
In the end the Streetball Team was able to come out on top 152-133.
“The Johnson City team was good, but the overall event was not as good as last year.,” said ETSU junior Kristy Shinabery.
“I would have liked it if the streetball team would have played the ETSU basketball team, it would have been more exciting.
“I did enjoy the dunk contest at the end,” she said.
While the game was going on there were also a number of other events that took place. Music was played to keep the crowd involved, free T-shirts were thrown into the audience, and two pairs of Lloyd Banks’ tickets were given out to the loudest fans.
