Dear Editor,
This is an open, friendly letter to all students, faculty and staff.
This is my first semester at ETSU, and I’m enjoying school here. However, I do have one major problem: Asthma.
To an asthmatic, cigarette smoke and perfumes can be dangerous. These are major triggers for me, so I have to be careful.
I am asking a huge favor , not just for me, but also for other asthmatics on campus.
If you really want to wear perfumes and colognes a very little goes a long way, especially of the really strong scents.
The flowery scents are harder on me than others. Guys need to be careful with their colognes and aftershaves as well.
Cigarette smoke is my No. 1 trigger. I can handle what I get passing someone on the walkways. But, it really builds up when people stand on the walks talking in the narrower areas.
Two other bad places are in front of Mathes-Burleson where people sit on the steps and in the archway and behind Rogers-Stout at the railing. I thought no one was allowed to be too close to entrances any where on campus while smoking.
Please be considerate to others and we can all breathe easier.
Thanks.
Cynthia Canter
