ETSU Vice President for Administration and Chief Operating Officer Wayne Andrews was selected Friday to be the 13th president of Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky. Andrews was offered a four-year contract beginning Jan. 1, 2005.
Morehead’s Board of Regents voted unanimously on the motion to offer Andrews the position.
Current Morehead President Ronald G. Eaglin, who is retiring in December, was pleased with the board’s decision.
“Dr. Andrews will make a wonderful president for Morehead State University,” he said in a press release issued by Morehead State. “I look forward to working with him on a smooth transition of leadership.”
Morehead is a 9,500-student public university in Eastern Kentucky.
Andrews has 27 years of higher education experience at two institutions, including serving as a tenured professor in engineering technology, department chairperson, executive assistant to the president, vice president for student affairs, vice president for administration and chief operating officer. He has also served as a fellow of the American Council on Education.
Some of Andrews’ accomplishments at ETSU include: re-accreditation of four programs and first-time accreditation of two engineering technology programs, a significant increase in scholarly activity by ETSU faculty, major equipment acquisitions for engineering technology and successful external program review of the graduate program.
He also planned, organized and led the university’s Continuous Improvement Initiative, reorganized the department of Student Affairs; partnered with academic affairs to establish the Advisement, Resources and Career Center; and partnered with student affairs to construct the Center for Physical Activity.
Andrews received a bachelor of science from Fitchburg (Mass.) State College in 1974. He received an M.A. in 1976 and doctorate in education in 1977 from West Virginia University.
