Reality shows have totally taken over television.
I am so tired of Who’s your Daddy, Fear Factor, The Bachelor and its female counterpart, as well as all the other reality trash that is dominating television.
I was thinking about America’s obsession with these programs and I had a novel idea.
I believe the next presidential election should be conducted in the style of reality television.
I want to see these people argue with their spouses. I want to see them when they first wake up, see what car they drive and find out their favorite foods. I want to know all I can about these people, especially if they want my vote.
How do our presidential candidates treat their families? Their pets? What are their quirks and pet peeves?
These are things I want to know when choosing the candidate I will support.
I don’t think the program should be set up The Real World – style. The last thing I want to see is a bunch of old men in a hot tub.
I would simply suggest that each of the candidate’s houses be filled with video cameras and microphones.
Think about how great it would be to see what these people who want to be the leader of the free world do on a day to day basis.
Currently voters in America have no way to judge candidates other than the elaborate fabrications they feed to the public.
I want to see how these people act on a daily basis, not when they know millions of people are watching.
I loved Bill Clinton, and do you know why? Because he was a real human being. He made mistakes, and he did what any other human being in the world would do.
Then when he got caught, he lied his ass off just like any of us would have done.
I also liked him because he admits to getting a little crazy in college. I mean, who doesn’t?
Who cares about Social Security, Medicaid and other government programs that are so caught up in red tape there will never be a perfect solution?
Most of these programs will be long gone before most of us are even old enough to receive benefits, although we have helped pay for the programs since the day we received our first paychecks.
I want a president that cares about the same things that I do, and the only way to see through the lies is to invade their lives and watch everything they do. No one can put on a show forever. Their true personality would quickly show through the politician’s facade.
There is no doubt reality television has taken over the networks, and more people voted for the next American Idol than in the presidential election.
I find this sickening, but that’s my humble opinion.
Perhaps if making a decision on whom to vote for in a presidential election didn’t consist of a bunch of debates that could cure insomnia, more people would be interested
Who knows, we might even end up with a president that would think long and hard about what is ethical instead of making decisions out of anger.
With reality television, anything is possible, perhaps even choosing the best man for the most important job in the nation.
