ETSU’s Spring Spectacular will feature the ETSU Chorale along with newly re-established popular male vocal group 7BucsWorth and The Dreamettes, a new female vocal ensemble.
This annual event will be held Friday and Saturday, March 18-19, at 8 p.m. in the D.P. Culp Center’s Martha Street Culp Auditorium. Admission is $10, and all proceeds will be used to help fund the ETSU Chorale’s spring 2006 concert tour of Europe.
Members of the Chorale will perform classic pop and jazz standards from such Broadway shows as Dreamgirls and Chicago, as well as current popular songs by such artists as Josh Groban, including “To Where You Are” and “You Raise Me Up.” Soloists will include Clay Bailey, Bristol; Da’Trian Johnson, Asheville, N.C.; Cody McCullah, Jacksboro; and Candra Savage, Jonesborough.
The entire Chorale’s rendition of Robert Ray’s “Gospel Mass” will feature soloists Leslie Anderson, Kingsport; Andrea Childress, Elizabethton; and B.J. Dishner and Chris Fitzwater, Gray. They will be accompanied by pianist Ann Yates Jones, bass guitarist Stephen Farrior and percussionist Matthew Waldron.
7BucsWorth will perform numbers made popular by Billy Joel, Rockapella and The Beatles. Members of this group include Farrior, Bristol; Kris Carlson, Bluff City; Ricky Hilton, Elizabethton; Tyler Jones, Greeneville; Zach Lalor, Nashville; Byron Tolley, Gray; and Jacob Witten, Columbus, N.C.
They will be joined by the newly formed female vocal group The Dreamettes on numbers from the musical Chicago with choreography by Chorale member Jessica Hall and piano accompaniment by Ann Jones. Members include Hall, Kim Correll and Sara Jarnagin, all of Knoxville; Katie Carr, Canton, Ohio; Priya Paranthaman, Norton, Va.; and Lindsey Morrow, Elizabethton.
All three ensembles perform under the direction of Dr. Thomas Jenrette, professor and director of choral activities in the Department of Music in ETSU’s College of Arts and Sciences.
