Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to Brad Harris’ tirade about the summer graduation policies.
I am scheduled to graduate this May and I was astounded when I read Mr. Harris’ letter. His letter and request diminish the graduation experience for the people who have completed the proper requirements for graduation.
If the policy says that if you have over six hours in the summer, you can’t walk in May, then that’s the rule. ETSU has over 10,000 students and it cannot have 10,000 different policies. It’s just not practical to try and accommodate last-minute decisions of every student.
As for his comments about Dr. Stanton, well I have attended two graduations and at both Dr. Stanton talked about how happy he was around graduation time. I don’t think he is purposefully and vengefully trying to keep you from walking. Mr. Harris, rules are rules and when you hit the real world you will find that truer than ever.
If going through the commencement ceremony is as important to you as it is to me and many others, then make arrangements to be here in December.
ETSU has been a great university my last four years and I am proud to receive my degree from ETSU.
I wish you and others in a similar situation the best of luck.
Andrea Krimmel
