Dear Editor,
I am writing concerning all of the recent letters regarding the reinstatement of football. A majority of the letters that are being printed seem to be against football and I really don’t understand why.
Football would definitely be an asset to ETSU. I was a student the last couple of years the university had football. I attended all the games and they were a
blast. After the university cut football, there really was nothing to do on the weekends.
The argument seems to come up time and time again that the university could do something different with the student money, and that there are more pressing problems.
Well, the football foundation went through all the right channels. There were many complaints reported to the president and there was a committee formed in support of the return of football, which is the Buccaneer Football and Friends Foundation, and is totally different from the university-appointed task force. The ETSU football supporters have done their homework.
If you really want improvements made to buildings on
campus, organize a committee yourself and gather the support. This is exactly what football supporters have done, so why should they be punished?
Let me also remind you that the CPA was voted against by students years ago. It was built anyway. I know I loved the facility and it is filled everyday.
Sure football isn’t free, and don’t be fooled into thinking that students fees are the only way money is going to be raised. That is totally false. Money will be gathered from the community and its donors. Why not improve this university. Have some ETSU pride about yourself, and vote yes in April.
