Dear Editor,
The ETSU Friends of Music wishes to publicly thank the participants of our Hidden Talent Showcase held on Saturday night, March 24.
This event featured an all volunteer lineup including administrators, faculty, retirees, staff, students and alumni with the funds raised from this event going to assist the Music Department in supplementing scholarship financial awards.
There was a lot of excitement and joy and laughter throughout the performances. We discovered that there are a lot of talented musicians on our campus and they are not all in the music department. Talent and instruments ranged from vocalists to mandolin, guitar, fiddle, marimba and piano.
Individuals who performed were doctors, nurses, histological technicians, artists, librarians and psychiatrists. Students from education, philosophy and music joined the lineup. Several of the performers composed their own music. This was a truly amazing group.
Thanks to freshmen Matt Miller, Laura Beth Poteat and Amythyst Phillips, and to music students Sara Beth Brimer, Sam Crawford, Jennifer Palmer and Dave Whaley.
Thanks also go out to professional staff and faculty Lou Ellen Miller from pathology, Dr. John Morefield from English, Dr. Tom Schacht from psychiatry, Dean Randy Wykoff of public and allied health and his friend Charlie Knuth, law librarian from District of Columbia, Dr. Lewis Songer, retired music professor.
Also, thanks to alumnae Gloria Dudney, Linda Selby and Nancy Jane Earnest, as well as the talented Jane LaPella. Our guest emcee for the evening was Ed Herbert.
This was the first time the Friends of Music has done this type of event and based on the positive feedback and response we are looking at planning a second Hidden Talent event next spring. When we post notices this fall looking for new talent to showcase, we hope that you will volunteer and share your talent with your friends and colleagues.
