East Tennessee State University students and surrounding residents can look forward to comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias and his opening act, Alfred Robles, coming to Freedom Hall Civic Center on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Iglesias was the most popular option from the SGA poll for the fall concert that was sent out for student vote prior to the selection. Each semester, the genre for the show changes to provide variety for the student body. This semester’s genre fell into the “other” category, offering choices ranging from alternative rock, hip-hop, comedy and rap.

“When we try to pick the artists who come, we have a set rotational list of categories,” Secretary of Exterior Larissa Copley said. “It’s a combination of what genres are up for rotation on top of what our budget is and what artists will fit into both of those aspects.”

With appearances on shows such as “Key and Peele,” “All That” and “Last Comic Standing,” Iglesias has been making a name for himself for two decades. His other notable roles include being in  “Coco,” “Magic Mike” and the release of his own stand-up comedy film in 2014, “The Fluffy Movie.” Netflix already showcases some of his past work, including 2016 special “I’m Sorry For What I Said When I Was Hungry,” in addition to a special from his current tour that debuted at the beginning of this year.

Attendees can expect opportunities for free T-shirts from the SGA during the show, entertainment before and in-between comedian sets, and a night of laughter brought to the area by ETSU.

“Even if it is not your thing, go to it, check it out; you might be surprised,” said Carter Warden, assistant director of student activities and organizations. “With a comedian, I would say especially, everyone likes to laugh. There’s no musical taste involved … You will probably not get this opportunity when you get out of college.”

Students may pick up their free ticket with a valid ETSU ID until Sept. 19 in the Student Activities and Organizations office at the second floor of the Basler Center for Physical Activity. Students may also buy up to four additional tickets for $10 each. Public tickets will be available online only starting Sept. 9 for $25 at https://www.etsu.edu/sga/events.php
