The season is around the corner for the men’s golf team. This season will be a fresh start for the team with new head coach Jake Amos.

Coach Jake Amos

Amos has six years of coaching experience holding several assistant positions at South Carolina, Purdue, South Florida and his alma mater Augusta University. Amos became the head coach on July 1 after the retirement of Hall of Fame coach Fred Warren.

Aside from the new coach, the team also has some young players. The team is stacked with three freshmen, three juniors and one redshirt senior.

“I am exited to work with such a young team,” says Amos.

The Bucs are coming off a successful year last season. Junior Shiso Go (Kanagawa, Japan) captured his first collegiate title in the Southern Conference title.

Go and junior Jack Rhea (Johnson City, Tennessee) went on the represent the Bucs in the NCAA Regionals. Rhea tied for 33rd and Go tied for 65th in the Stanford Regional.

Amos has high hopes for the team this season as the head coach.

“I’ve been around a lot of coaches, so I’ve had some help,” Amos said.

He has marked down certain goals and expectations for the team this year.

“I want to work with consistency with the freshmen,” he said.

Amos hopes to place a large bid and lockdown before conference play begins.

“I hope to take it one day to develop these young players,” he said.

He worked as the assistant coach for the Bucs last year and dealt with recruiting.

“Everyone wants to be a pro at this sport,” said Amos.

In his first year as a head coach he hopes to accomplish the set goals for the team.

“I’m looking for guys that make me work harder as a coach,” he said.

The Bucs start their season Sept. 6-9 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at Rocky Face, Georgia.
