Men’s soccer played in their fourth game of the season at home on Saturday, Sept. 7, where they lost 3-0 against the Lipscomb Bisons.

This makes the second loss for the Bucs this season, but head coach David Casper is determined and confident in his team.

“At the end of the day they outplayed us,” said Casper. “As a staff we need to do a better job to prepare our guys to make sure that we are ready. … Today won’t define us, but we still need to tighten some things up.”

The Bisons played well, occupying the Bucs’ half of the field for much of the game and had many near goals, which were denied due to goal keeper and redshirt sophomore Josh Perryman (Sheffield, England) who had four saves this game.

One of the goals made by the Bisons was due to a penalty kick in the first half, which was caused by contact in the box.

The Bucs almost made it onto the scoreboard near the end of the first half when a shot by freshman Gilbert Miller (London, England) was saved by the Bison’s goal keeper.

“We need to bring the fire from the beginning,” said senior Merveil Bilomba (Tours, France). “We need to show our Buc fighter spirit.”

The Bisons saw two more goals in the second half, with the first one being in the first six minutes.

Miller saw another chance to advance the Bucs onto the scoreboard late in the second half but was denied as he was taken down just outside the box.

Casper confirmed redshirt senior John Lucchesi (Johnson City, Tennessee) suffered an injury to his ankle during the first half of the game.

“John got injured today, but hopefully he’ll bounce back,” said Casper. “We don’t know what is wrong yet, but we’ll find out soon.”

Men’s soccer will take to the field again on Tuesday, Sept. 10, against Marshall in Huntington, West Virginia.
