The ETSU Track and field teams hosted, for the second time this season, the Buccaneer Track and Field Invitational, completing their third competition of the season over the weekend. Events lasted all day on Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb 1. ETSU was one of the 28 teams that competed in the event inside the MSHA/ETSU Mini-Dome.

On the second day of the Invitational, the team honored six of their senior athletes: Sydney Hawks (Pearisburg, Virginia), Jaden Finch (Glen Aubrey, New York), Margaret Hayden (Ballymore Eustace, Kildaire, Northern Ireland), Neyasha Honorable (Knoxville, Tennessee) Noah Charles (Johnson City, Tennessee) and Ben O’Connor (Statesville, North Carolina) for the work they have put in to the program.

The first day of the event was a successful one for the Bucs. Sophomore Kennedi Johnson (Nashville, Tennessee) finished the opening 60m hurdles with a time of 8.87s, which secured her a place in the finals the following day.

Both of the Men’s and Women’s teams came in first in the 4000m distance medley relay, the women finishing 40 seconds before Montevallo.

Field play was completed with a win for the Bucs as the 4 by 400 women’s relay received first place at just under four minutes.

The Blue and Gold did very well in regards to the women’s weight throw on the second day of events, in which junior Symphony Buxton (Knoxville, Tennessee) landed second place with a throw of 16.73. She was followed by freshman Jataya Wilson (Alcoa, Tennessee) landing third with 16.49m, and Hayden landing third with a throw of 16.36m.

“We will send a small group of athletes to the Camel City Classic in Winston-Salem next weekend and then have a final tune-up a week later as we prepare for the Southern Conference Championship,” said head coach George Watts.

Next up, the Blue and Gold travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to participate in the two-day Camel City Invitational.
