The men’s golf team made their way to the 25 slot in the country over the weekend at the Seminole Intercollegiate tournament in Tallahassee, Florida.

On Saturday, the team began with a 2-over-par (290) opening round, which set ETSU at fifth place for round one. In round two they moved on to fourth place with 292 (+4). The following day, the Blue and Gold finished with a final score of 2-under-par (862) placing second in the tournament.

Freshman Archie Davies (Carlisle, England) is making his mark on the team finishing the tournament with 217 points, which tied him at 9th place and the second-best score of the Bucs. After a rough beginning with a 6-over-par (78) and only two birdies in the first round, Davies went on to make a 1-under-par (71) in the second, along with three birdies and two bogies. Davies advanced 29 spots to tie for 30 place on the first day.

On Sunday, Davies started off with three birdies in the first four holes, followed by pars for the next nine and his only blemish on the day being a sole bogey. He made his way back up to 4-under-par securing his tie at 9.

“The first round wasn’t ideal,” said Davies. “I didn’t get down on myself, which I have done in the past. I just kind of had a feeling that I was going to play well in the last two rounds, and I did.”

Davies, along with junior Jack Rhea (Jonesborough, Tennessee), were the only two Buccaneers to make it into a top 10 slot in the tournament. Rhea finished fifth place in the tournament with a 1-under-par (215) score finishing with his fourth top 10 spot on the season, and his second in the top five.

“I think everyone on the team has really high expectations for the season,” said Davies. “We just need to keep pushing on, keep getting better and see where that takes us.”

The Bucs compete next in the General Hackler Championship on March 9 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The tournament will last Monday and Tuesday.
