The Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Association awarded four Tennessee college students with a total of $8,000 in scholarships, including ETSU student Paul Arrowood.

TNMBA scholarships go to students who perform exceptionally well in school and plan to find a career in the mortgage lending business, according to TNMBA President-elect Karley Bond. Each recipient receives $2,000.

“I was very excited about all of this,” Arrowood said. “It was very satisfying because I had put in a lot of work to get it.”

Arrowood is a junior majoring in economics at ETSU, where he has made the Dean’s List every semester. He plans to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career in mortgage lending. He also plants to obtain his mortgage origination license.

Arrowood recently played basketball at Milligan College before transferring to ETSU. This played out in his favor after Bill Robinson, the head basketball coach of Milligan, gave Arrowood a reference, which he believes made a big difference in becoming selected for the TNMBA scholarship.

Sam Ferguson, the vice-president of New Again Houses, and Rob Webber, a branch manager of People’s Home Equity, also contributed to Arrowood’s references.

Arrowood is appreciative of these individuals.

“All of the letters were really good,” he said.

He was also very grateful for the TNMBA and Bond who decided to award him the scholarship.

“Thank you for the opportunity to get a scholarship like this,” he said. “It’s something that is specific to what I’m doing, and I’m very thankful.”

And while he is still pursuing a degree, Paul currently has experience working at People’s Home Equity in Johnson City.

With his connections and hard work, he plans to have a successful career, much like his father, in the industry.
