On Nov. 2, 2021, the King’s Corner Candy Shop opened its doors on the bottom floor of Carter Hall, inside of a former student apartment.

The opening was sponsored by local confectioners such as Peggy Ann’s Bakery, Nothing Bundt Cake, Buttermilk Sky Pies and Doe River Roasters. King’s Corner is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will feature an array of cookies, candy, donuts, pastries, pies and coffee that students can purchase using ID Bucs.

“I am so excited about having another coffee place that’s local,” said Josh Wilson, an ETSU student.

King’s Corner is the brainchild of four ETSU seniors: Madison Huber, Isabelle Tyler, Skylar Wilson and Stacey Reed. The girls dreamt up their vision for the store in late 2019 and were nothing short of thrilled to see it finally come to life as they cut the shiny blue ribbon and welcomed students inside.

“To see this come from an idea we had a year and a half ago, to students walking through the doors, is really exciting,” said Isabelle Tyler.

Before getting to step inside the shop, students, staff and other ceremony attendees were able to enjoy treats from Peggy Ann’s, Buttermilk Sky and Doe River Roasters while listening to remarks from President Brian Noland, ETSU’s President.

“One of the things I enjoy most about this university is that it’s a place that brings people together,” said Noland. “It will bring people together after we’re long gone.”

Student Government Association President Mason Mosier agreed, adding that “knowing our administrators that put this together care about the university and students makes me realize how truly blessed we are. It’s not like this anywhere else. Our faculty and staff truly care about these students.”
