The ETSU Counseling Center has plans for getting more involved with students across campus for the upcoming Fall 2022 semester. Interim Director Alison Davis said the center’s goals for this year are to offer more awareness and events to encourage students to participate and understand the benefits of focusing on mental health.

This semester, the Counseling Center will offer more Let’s Talk locations across campus such as the residence halls, athletic departments, library, Multicultural Center and Veterans Center.

“The Let’s Talk program is an informal service that allows students to speak with a counselor without having to come into the center or make an appointment. In fact, you don’t even have to tell the counselor your name,” said Davis.

For students who might have limited experience or anxiety about having personal discussions, the Let’s Talk program is highly recommended as a beginning step.

The Counseling Center will also collaborate with the ETSU Wellness Center in order to offer more events across campus. In the first weeks of school, the center plans to participate in Campus Roundup on Aug. 26, as well as host an open house event that will allow students to tour the counseling facilities and meet the staff members.

“We want to open our doors and make it more comfortable with students to meet with us,” Davis said.

In addition, the center will offer many group sessions and workshops for students this semester. The “Understanding Self and Others” group will meet Mondays from 1:00-2:30 p.m. to allow students a safe space to discuss topics like anxiety, depression and self esteem throughout the semester.

“We are here and available for students and we want to support you,” Davis said. “Even if you are not sure about having a counseling session, we have workshops, group sessions and other events that go beyond counseling that students can benefit from. We hope to see you all at the center at some point this semester.”

The Counseling Center is located on the third floor of the Culp Center. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 423-439-3333 or visit the center’s website at www.etsu.edu/students/couseling/.
