ETSU men’s tennis team traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to compete in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals Championship.

The tournament took place from Thursday, Oct. 13 to Monday, Oct. 17, and was the second tournament for the team in their fall season with eight of their nine players competing in the tournament. 

On the first day of the tournament, Thursday, the first round of doubles was played. 

Junior Adam Nagoudi (Tunis, Tunisia) and junior Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) won their first doubles game against Vince Orlando and Eli Herran of Ball State University. 

Junior Thiago Pernas (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and freshman Peter Kalocsai (Hungary) won their doubles match 8-3 against Zach Trimpe and Borja Miralles from Butler University to proceed to round two. 

Sophomore Francisco Lamas (Maracay, Venezuela) and sophomore Juan Lombsiano (Buenos Aires, Argentina) won 8-5 in the first match against Tom Ciszewski and Kamil Kozerski. 

Freshman James Sim (New Zealand) and freshman Pedro Cressoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) lost their doubles match in the first round against Marko Ilic and Tomas Luis from Belmont University 3-8. 

Round two then continued on Friday. 

In the second round, Nagoudi and Badra lost 6-8 against Siim Troost and Jeremie Casabon from Vanderbilt. 

Lamas and Lombisano lost in the second round to Conor Gannon and Harry Rock from the University of Memphis with a score of 7-8 and a tiebreaker of 5-7. 

Pernas and Kalocsai won round two of their doubles against Daniel Labrador and Sebastian Welch from Purdue University 8-5. 

For doubles, the only team to make it to Saturday were Pernas and Kalocsai, who lost in round three to Alexandre LeBlanc and JJ Mercer from UK 5-8. 

For singles on Thursday, Badra won his first match 6-2, 6-3 against Omar Elsamahy from the University of Southern Indiana and went on to win round two on Friday against Heman Nama from the University of Kentucky with a score of 6-1, 6-2.  

Badra proceeded to play round three on Saturday against Patrick Fletchall from Indiana University 6-3, 6-4. He will play round 4 on Sunday against Francisco Rocha from MTSU. 

Kalocsai lost in the first round of singles with a score of 1-6, 1-6 against Matthew Fung from the University of Louisville. 

Lamas also lost in the first round against Luc Boulier from Indiana University with a score of 4-6, 3-6. 

Pernas won round one of singles against Nicholas Adamec from Tennessee State University with a score of 6-3 and 6-4. Proceeding to the second round on Friday, he won against JJ Mercer from the University of Kentucky with a score of 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, which led him to round three. 

Pernas won round three of singles that was played on Saturday against Matt DeMarco from the University of Dayton with a win of 6-0, 6-1 and will play round four on Sunday. 

Sim won his singles game but lost in the second round to Andre Steinbach from the University of Louisville 2-6, 6-4, 2-6. 

Nagoudi also lost in the second round of singles to Juan Sebastian Zabala from the University of Memphis with a score of 2-6, 5-7.
