On Oct. 23, the ETSU Gospel Choir presented their homecoming concert with special guests Kenny Curry and the Nu-Spirit. The event was directed by Jerrica Anderson and Laura Terry, held in the Martha Street Culp Auditorium.

The event began at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, and lasted until about 7:00 p.m. that evening. The energetic crowd sang, danced and praised together.

The audience was led in prayer before the event kicked off, and then the choir members arrived on stage to praise, sing, dance and even mime. The band that accompanied the singers consisted of an electric guitar, keyboard and drum set. Each audience member was up on their feet, joining in with the choir.

The East Tennessee State University Gospel Choir was originally known as the East Tennessee State University Gospel Ensemble, due to it only having 12 members. Today, the choir averages around 50 members and continues to grow annually. Members of the choir represent many different ethnicities and backgrounds, all coming together under the same beliefs.

Kenny Curry and the Nu-Spirit is a hip-hop and contemporary gospel group from Charlotte, North Carolina. The spokesperson of the band, Curry, encouraged the students of the ETSU gospel choir to join him in front of the stage and praise together, leading to an amazing performance of praise dance from all involved. The first song the band sang consisted of an upbeat chorus that chanted, “Jesus died for you,” and all students danced and sang together in praise.
