Welcome to the column to go to when you’re a broke, tired college student in a dorm. With today’s article, I’ll be going over a cheap three-ingredient recipe that can be made in your dorms: tortilla pizzas.

All you need is a tortilla, sauce and cheese, along with a spoon, a knife, an oven mitt and something to put this in the oven with, ideally a baking sheet. Most, if not all, of this should be in your dorm’s communal kitchen. For pricing, I studied the Kroger beside campus to get an idea of how much this would cost for anyone walking.

For a regular cheese tortilla pizza, the ingredients cost as follows:

  • Mas Y Mas Flour Tortillas ($1.69)
  • Hunt’s Tomato Sauce is ($1.29)
  • Kroger Brand Shredded Mozzarella ($2.49)

This recipe is under $6, including tax, even without a Kroger card and even cheaper with one. It yields 10 tortilla pizzas, and costs 60 cents per pizza.

It is also light and can easily be carried back to your dorm under most circumstances. To jazz the pizza up a bit, here are the prices of other popular toppings and sauces you can put on your mini pizzas:

  • Follow Your Heart Dairy-Free Parmesan ($5.99)
  • So Delicious Dairy-Free Mozzarella ($4.79)
  • Kroger Brand Bacon Bits ($2.49)
  • Kroger Brand Diced Ham ($2.79)
  • Kroger Brand One Pound Family Pack Pepperoni ($6.99)
  • Tofurky Sausage ($5.99)
  • Green Onions (99 cents per bundle)
  • Sweet Onions ($1.39 per pound)
  • Garlic (50 cents per bulb)
  • Bell Peppers (89 cents a pepper)
  • White Sliced Mushrooms ($2.49)
  • Roma Tomatoes ($1.39 per pound)
  • Kroger Brand Grated Parmesan ($2.19)
  • Kroger Brand Marinara Sauce ($1.99*)
  • Kroger Brand Alfredo Sauce ($1.99)
  • Kroger Brand BBQ Sauce: ($1.49)

These ingredients should be easy to find. You should note that, Kroger Brand Marinara Sauce has a lid. While Hunt’s tomato sauce is cheaper, this marinara will keep better in the fridge. In addition, pepperoni doesn’t have to come in a 1 pound bag unless you want it to, and it is the cheapest brand of pepperoni there.

For anyone who’s vegan on campus, you too can enjoy this, but it is slightly more expensive. It will be around $8.51 after tax for all the ingredients and 85 cents per pizza.

Once you’re ready, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Take a singular tortilla out and put a spoonful of the sauce of your choice into the center of the tortilla and swirl it around. Top with mozzarella.

If you would like to add any more toppings, now is the time to add them. Next, there’s a choice: open or closed? If you’d like more of a sandwich, roll or calzone, roll or fold appropriately.

Put in the oven for five to eight minutes and remove. Cut into four slices if open or a single slice if folded or rolled. Enjoy!
