Men and women’s track and field competed at the Raleigh Relays hosted by N.C. State from Thursday, March 23 to Saturday, March 25.  

Athletes on Thursday included senior Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa), who ran in the 1500m with a time of 3:53.67. Junior Myles Stoots (Mobile, Alabama) ran a 9:14.28 in the steeplechase. Junior Evan Guzman (Franklin, Tennessee) ran the 5000m, setting a personal best while competing for the second time ever in this event. He finished with a time of 14:19.10. 

Friday’s competition proved successful for freshman Chanelle Kruger (Johannesburg, South Africa) who ran the steeplechase with a time of 10:35.01. This time earned her 14th place in the Raleigh Relays and a new school record for the Bucs. Kruger beat the school record that was set 10 years ago by 22 seconds. This accomplishment comes as Kruger’s second record and first individual record. 

Another personal best was set by senior Jessica Lord (Morristown, Tennessee) who ran the 400m with a time of 56.18. 

Junior Miguel Parrilla (Knoxville, Tennessee) also ran the 400m and earned a time of 50.61. 

Sophomore Kiera Snyder (Clyde, Michigan) earned a personal best on the 5000m with a time of 16:53.02. This is her personal best over both indoors and outdoors. 

During the field events on Friday, sophomore Malachi Thomas (Chilhowie, Virginia) set an outdoor personal best on the high jump with a mark of 2.01m, which earned him fifth place.  

Senior Mary Brown (Radford, Virginia) also earned a personal best in the discus throw. Brown threw 42.05m and placed 25th.  

Saturday’s events were all on track. 

In the women’s 800m, Lord ran a 2:08.61, placing 16th. Senior Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tennessee) ran a 2:10.67, placing 27th

Maduwa ran the 800m, placing sixth with a time of 1:50.00. In the same event Parrilla ran with a time of 1:54.24. 

Both men and women’s track and field will travel to High Point, North Carolina to compete at the VertKlasse Meeting on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1.
