ETSU’s radio station WETS-FM recently held their spring fund drive hoping to obtain half of their goal of $100,000.

The fund drive began on March 18 and ran through March 24, however the station is always accepting donations at any time throughout the year.

WETS-FM, according to the website, “provide(s) high-quality news and information programming for, and about, the region we serve roughly a 120-mile radius from the ETSU campus in Johnson City, Tennessee. WETS-FM serves as an informational and cultural outlet outlet for our region, presenting news, music and information that is unavailable on other broadcast outlets.”

WETS-FM hosts fund drives throughout the year, one of which allows listeners to call in live and donate. It takes no more than three minutes and provides opportunity with the station to receive feedback from their listeners. Donations made to the station help cover costs for programming and equipment necessary to keep the station running.

“Listeners are the most important and largest source of our funding,” said Chad Barrett, station director.

WETS-FM is currently in the midst of several projects, including upgrading their equipment by installing a new tower and transmitter, which carries signal to their listeners. They are working hard, with the hopes of having the tower up and installed by the end of the year.

“I would just like to let listeners know that we really appreciate them. You know, I’m grateful for every donation we get, no matter how big, not matter how small,” said Barrett. “Every little bit counts.”

You can donate to WETS-FM any time at wets.org, and tune in 24-hours a day at 89.5MHz.

Barrett ended his interview by showing an admiration for staff, wishing to include a “thank-you” to Fred Sauceman, Dave Edwards, Wayne Winkler and Laureatte Loy for their work with the station, as well as Jess Vodden for getting the word out about their fundraising efforts.
