The men’s golf team competed in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate hosted by Georgia Tech from Friday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 15.

ETSU fought hard, earning the team first place on day one and day two.

Day one ended with a team score of 13-under-par 275 with 23 birdies, a tournament best. The Bucs finished day two with a 4-under-par 284.

Junior Algot Kleen swept the board for the individual crown, remaining in a tie for first place at the end of each day and the end of the tournament. On day one, Kleen scored 5-under-par 67; on day two, he scored 4-under-par 68; on day three, he finished strong with an overall score of 11-under-par 205, tying for first place with Omar Morales from UCLA.

The team went into the final day with a six-shot lead but could not keep up their shots to maintain first place. They finished in third with a score of 16-under-par 848. Virginia took first in the tournament, proving to be a close competitor throughout the weekend for the Bucs.

Senior Mats Ege was the second buccaneer on the leaderboard. He finished day two after earning three birdies, four pars, and two bogeys. Ege kept up the hard work on day three of the tournament, ending in a tie for fifth with Ben Hames from Virginia. The two earned a score of 8-under-par 208.

After the tournament in Georgia, the men’s golf team has been ranked number 8 by Golfweek due to their performance this semester. The team has earned four top-4 finishes, one win, a second place, and three individual wins.

Ege competes in the World Amateur Team Championship in Abu Dhabi from Wednesday, Oct. 18, through Saturday, Oct. 21.

The team will finish their fall season in Maui, Hawaii, at the Ka’anapali Classic from Thursday, Oct. 26 to Saturday, Oct. 28, and will be returning in February after the break.
