ETSU played in-state rival Chattanooga in a Southern Conference match-up on Oct. 21. The Bucs are coming off their first Southern Conference win that came against Wofford and looked to continue their success against the Mocs. However, Chattanooga proved too much for the Bucs as they controlled the game from the start and won with a final score of 34-3.

Chattanooga was quick to get points on the board as a nine-play, 75-yard drive resulted in a touchdown early in the first quarter. William Riddle (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was in a familiar city in his first collegiate start and completed a short pass to Will Huzzie (Duluth, Ga.) for no gain on the first play of offense for the Bucs. Later in the drive, Riddle fumbled the ball, and a Chattanooga defender recovered.

After a balanced offensive attack, Chattanooga found the end zone on a short three-yard run. This gave the Mocs a 14-0 lead over the Bucs with a little over three minutes left in the first quarter.

Chattanooga opened up the second quarter with a deep shot down the middle and connected on a 45-yard touchdown, making the score 21-0. Riddle faced pressure from Chattanooga’s defense on their first drive of the second quarter, which resulted in a 44-yard punt from Nate Brackett (Rockwood, Tenn.).

With no signs of quitting, ETSU’s defense forced a fumble right as Chattanooga was close to scoring and looked to capitalize on offense. ETSU pushed the ball up the field but was eventually moved into a 46-yard punt by Brackett. After completing a 15-yard pass, Jayvon Henderson (Auburn, Ga.) recorded his first career interception on the very next play. After the interception, ETSU was able to get good enough field position for a 40-yard field goal from Ewan Johnson (Knoxville, Tenn.) with 3:55 left in the half.

Chattanooga scored early in the third quarter on a 26-yard pass to make the score 28-3. ETSU had a difficult time getting the offense going in the second half and was kept scoreless for the rest of the game. Chattanooga tacked on two field goals in the fourth quarter to make the final score 34-3.

ETSU stays on the road as they take on Furman in Greenville, S.C. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
