On Oct. 27, the ETSU women’s volleyball team had an exciting match against rival Chattanooga, winning in five sets. 

Junior Amanda Lowe (Blacksburg, Va.) had a career-high of 20 insane kills. Senior Jenna Forster (Maryville, Tenn.) and sophomore Brianna Cantrell (Appleton, Wis.) also contributed 15 and 13 kills for the Bucs. Jasmal Cruz (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico.) led the defense with 18 digs, while Lundyn Coffman (Nolensville, Tenn.) excelled on the block with two solo blocks and five block assists.

Set 1: ETSU initially took a 5-0 lead, but the Mocs fought back and won the first set 25-21 with a 5-1 run.

Set 2: The Buccaneers maintained their lead throughout the second set, winning 25-15.

Set 3: ETSU had a balanced offensive attack and won the third set 25-22, taking a 2-1 lead in the match.

Set 4: The fourth set was closely contested, with no team having a lead larger than three points. Chattanooga won the set 25-19, forcing a fifth set.

Set 5: The fifth set was highly competitive, with numerous tied scores. ETSU had four match points, and they finally closed out the match with an ace from junior Kanon Miyaki, winning 18-16.

The winning victory improved ETSU’s overall record to 4-18, and they now have a 4-7 record in SoCon play. 

Malgorzata Andersohn (Bydgoszscz, Poland.) had 35 assists and 17 digs, as well as freshman Alex Kreutzman (Menomonee Falls, Wis.), who contributed 28 assists and 15 digs. 

Finally, sophomore Brianna Cantrell (Appleton, Wis.) had a double-double with 13 kills and 16 digs. 

The team’s next match is against UNC Greensboro, where they will aim for their third consecutive win. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
