Following the final game of an unsatisfactory season, ETSU announced that football Head Coach George Quarles was terminated from his position on Sunday, Nov. 19.

The football program played a total of 11 games this season, including pre-conference play. They finished the season with a 3-11 final record. Eight games were played against other schools within the Southern Conference, and the Bucs finished the conference with a 2-8 record.

The only conference games that the Bucs won were their third game against Wofford, played on Saturday, Oct. 14, with a final score of 41-10, and their final game against The Citadel, played on Saturday, Nov. 18, with a final score of 35-23. Both of those wins were home games.

A statement from athletic director Dr. Richard Sander was released on Nov. 19 regarding Quarles’ removal.

“I met with Coach Quarles earlier today and informed him that we have decided to go in a different direction with the program. I appreciate all Coach Quarles has done for our student-athletes, ETSU, and the community. We wish him and his family the best,” said Dr. Sander.

Coach Quarles had three years left in his contract with ETSU.

ETSU also announced that a national search for a new head coach would begin immediately.

One week later, on Monday, Nov. 27, the search concluded, and Tre Lamb was named the new head coach for the Buccaneer football program.

Lamb will be the 20th head coach in program history and is one of the most promising young coaches in the community.

Lamb will join the Buccaneer family after spending the last four seasons at Gardner-Webb University as head coach for the football program. He led the Bulldogs to back-to-back conference championships, FCS playoff appearances, and more.

An official press conference was held on Wednesday, Nov. 29, with the new Head Coach, Tre Lamb.
