The ETSU women’s basketball team had a hard-fought victory against Western Carolina, beating the Catamounts 56-47.

With junior Nevaeh Brown (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Journee McDaniel (New Bern, N.C.) playing key roles in the win. The game saw both teams struggling to find offensive rhythm in the early stages, but ETSU managed to build and maintain a lead throughout.

Brown netted 18 points to go with three rebounds, while McDaniel added 15 points and eight rebounds in just 20 minutes. McDaniel’s 15 points were two shy of matching her season high.

The Catamounts made a comeback attempt in the third quarter, narrowing the gap to one possession, but ETSU responded with crucial 3-pointers from McDaniel.

In the fourth quarter, ETSU extended its lead with successful free throw attempts and an 8-0 run towards the end of the game. Securing the win with a final score of 56-47.

This victory marked the eighth time ETSU held an opposing team under 50 points and matched a season-high with 17 offensive rebounds. The team’s overall record improves to 14-5, they now have a 3-1 record in SoCon play.

Next on the schedule, ETSU faced UNC Greensboro on the road Saturday and lost to the Spartans 54-50 thanks to a tough fourth quarter from Greensboro.
