THE COACHES: Georgia Southern head coach Mike Sewak (Virginia ’81) ) is in his first season with the Eagles and has a record of 3-2 … He spent the last five seasons as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, helping the club to a 62-10 record during that time … Kent Briggs (Western Carolina ”79) is in his first season at Western Carolina and has a career record of 3-3 … Briggs was a Catamount assistant coach from 1980-88 and was most recently the defensive coordinator at Connecticut.
GAME NOTES: Georgia Southern is coming off a 52-7 victory against VMI last week … GSU and its SoCon leading rushing attack gained 495 yards on the ground last week, while the defense held the Keydets to just 43 ground yards … WCU went to Furman last week and suffered a heartbreaking 24-23 loss to the Paladins … The Cats drove the ball 62 yards on eight plays to pull within one late in the game only to miss the extra point wide right … The Catamounts are excited to have their leading rusher Fred Boateng back to full-time status, rushing for 117 yards and two TD’s on 16 carries against Furman last week … The Eagle’s second-ranked rushing defense will look to make it difficult for Boateng to have an encore performance.
