Get ready, musical theater fans and history buffs alike. The global hit musical SIX is set to arrive at East Tennessee State University this summer.
According to the official ETSU Martin Center website, the show reimagines the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII, transforming them “From Tudor Queens to Pop Icons.” Bringing in a modern, high-energy retelling of royal history to the stage, “the SIX wives of Henry VIII take the microphone to reclaim their identities out of the shadow of their infamous spouse,” a show that has been described as something that “remixes five hundred years of historical heartbreak” into a musical performance full of stunning vocals.
The musical has gained international recognition for its unique concept and energetic score. The Martin Center website notes that the production’s original album debuted at number one on the Billboard cast album charts and surpassed one billion streams worldwide.
Critical reception has also been overwhelmingly positive. As highlighted on the site, The New York Times praised the show, saying SIX “totally rules!” The Washington Post described it as “exactly the kind of energizing, inspirational illumination” the Johnson City community needs.
Audience members planning to attend should be aware of several event details. The production will run May 26–28, 2026, at 7:00 P.M. at the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts’ Grand Hall. The performance will begin at 7:00, with doors opening at 6:00 P.M., and lasts approximately 80 minutes with no intermission.
The production is recommended for ages 10 and up, but the website adds a playful note with a nod to a song from the musical, which reads “Don’t Lose Ur Head, we love our Queens of all ages.” The Martin Center also includes a content advisory for attendees, stating that “SIX includes flashing lights, strobe effects, theatrical haze and loud music throughout.” Tickets for the event range from $72.50 to $92.50, plus applicable taxes and fees.
With its blend of history, pop music and empowerment, SIX offers a fresh theatrical experience that differs from traditional Broadway productions. For ETSU students and the Johnson City community, the show presents an opportunity to engage with a widely celebrated performance without leaving campus.
