The Bush administration has finally gotten what it wanted and America is going to attack a country that has not attacked us.
Instead of fighting a war thousands of miles away, Bush should consider fighting a war on the homeland. What about fighting poverty? In America, there are 250,000 homeless veterans who walk the streets in the world’s richest country.
What a joke it is that today we celebrate Veterans’ Day and yet Americans allow our government to treat our veterans like trash. Don’t be fooled. Our veterans are given nothing in return for their services to their country.
The government gives them mere crumbs to live on and many have to rely on handouts. These veterans are not getting what they were promised and at the same time the government is cutting their benefits. Is this their reward for giving so much to their country? Guess what, you’re next.
What about the war in America where there are 50,000 homeless teenagers? What about the war helping those who have lost their jobs? Of the 3 million who have lost their jobs, another 2 million more are signing up for food stamps. Are these issues more important or is fighting a war that will kill hundreds of Americans more important? What about our friends in the Middle East who will turn against us? What about our allies who don’t want us to attack Iraq?
This is what is going to happen with the upcoming war and with the Republicans controlling the Senate and Congress. This is what will happen when they begin cutting education. They will start cutting social programs that were set up to help the poor and those in desperate need. Then, we will all be affected by the educational cuts. The worst part is that a lot of you will be going to war and will die in Iraq. We should pray to God and ask for peace.
I have done all I can by writing to senators and asking for peace. I will continue to stand up and fight. I will continue to speak out against an unjust war that will kill many Americans. I will continue to pray to God and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. I want to carry forth the torch of peace that burns bright for America.
We must continue to fight against social injustice. America, you must let your voices be heard.
I believe in the great crusade for peace. I believe we can win this battle and you must get in this fight. This is a fight that we must all participate in. The real war is against poverty, homelessness and government corruption. This is the war that I am trying to win.
