Dear Editor,
I would like to briefly respond to the comments made by Rush Limbaugh regarding Philadel-phia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.
Limbaugh was quoted as saying that McNabb has been overrated. He even crossed racial lines by saying that the media only invested in praising McNabb because they were desperate for a black quarterback to do well in the NFL.
Limbaugh was totally out of line. McNabb has proven himself ever since he entered the league.
It seems that the issue of race may never go away in sports or everyday life. Blacks will always be scrutinized and not receive the credit that they deserve. This dates back to the formation of America and the use of slavery, to the last-hired-first-fired occurrences during the Depression, and from the idea that using blacks in WWII according to Henry Stimpson was “a danger to efficiency, discipline and morale, and would result in the ultimate defeat.”
When will racism end? McNabb is a better quarterback than almost any white quarterback anyway.
