Dear Editor,
Seth Bartee’s column on Coach Hamilton is a spiteful attack hiding behind the guise of a tribute to Coach Hamilton. Does the sum of not being a socialist, not being an atheist and not being an existentialist make you a good person? Perhaps Bartee should go on to tell us that Coach Hamilton has not murdered anyone, is not a member of the mob and has never been to Neverland Ranch. But, three paragraphs of his column on Hamilton focus on what he is not.
Why not include more stories about how he has been a great coach, has been a great husband and has been a great father rather then bore the student body with what Hamilton is not. Why? Because that column was not designed to honor Hamilton. Instead, it was meant to attack assorted groups, including the administration.
If you’re going to make a comment on such issues as atheism, socialism, existentialism or President Stanton’s decision to eliminate football, then write columns about those issues, instead of hiding being words such as “any administrator at ETSU.”
I find that column to be most disrespectful to Coach Hamilton for using his name in such a deceptive way.
